Small wings, great balance
We also keep bees on our vineyard, although we do not currently sell honey.<br>The hives are part of our way of caring for the land: at a time when there is much talk of bee mortality, choosing to host them means increasing the vitality of the environment and sending a concrete signal of our attention to biodiversity, not only in the vineyards.
More pollination, more life
Bees work on wild flowers, on plants sown between rows, and on the Mediterranean scrub surrounding the vineyards.
Their pollination work:
- supports plant diversity around the rows,
- promotes the presence of pollinating insects,
- helps create a more stable and resilient ecosystem.
A vineyard surrounded by flowers, grasses, and insects is a vineyard that breathes better.
Arnie among stone walls and scrubland
The beehives are carefully placed among the mosaic of stone walls, terraces, and scrubland.
We choose locations:
- repaired,
- in full sun,
- close to natural sources of nectar and pollen.
Bees follow the rhythm of the seasons, just like vines: their cycle becomes part of the same natural choreography that marks pruning, flowering, veraison, and harvest.
Bee mortality and responsibility
Keeping bees today is also an ethical choice.
Their global decline is linked, among other things, to:
- heavy use of pesticides
- habitat destruction
- simplification of the landscape
Our work goes in the opposite direction: no synthetic chemicals, more flowers and beneficial insects, more living landscape. Bees are a sort of thermometer: if they are doing well, it means that the system as a whole is functioning properly.
Bees, environment and wine
Although we do not produce honey for sale, the presence of bees also has an indirect impact on our wine:
- improving biodiversity around vineyards
- contributes to the stability of the ecosystem

Bees explained to children
Working with the school in Riomaggiore, we set up a project dedicated to bees: we shot videos in the vineyard and among the apiaries, designed to explain to children how bees live and why they are important for the local area.
At the end of the project, the children painted the new apiaries, transforming the hives into small pieces of colorful art. A simple and practical way to bring together bees, vineyards, and the landscape.
